Come & Create™ Community Murals

What They Say About Come & Create Community Murals:

Marcus Bales, Artist from Gallery 324 in the Galleria,
was integral in bringing "Come and Create" to the Galleria. When asked why he felt "Come and Create" was so important,
he said…

"This makes it easy for people to think of downtown as a place to go again. With places such as Crocker Park and Legacy Village, they are basically tiny imitations of downtown. The problem with downtown is that no one knows how to get around. The “Come and Create” program is a chance for people to come to a central location and come together. By doing this, people will learn their way downtown. The Galleria is far more interesting and bigger than a “manufactured” downtown as some other developments have tried to create."

Vicki Pole
, Marketing Manager for the Galleria,
Is pleased with how "Come and Create" came together and views the Galleria as a downtown art hub.

"Everyone really worked as a team on this project. This was a collaborative project that brought different ideas of success as we look forward into the future. I would really like to see an artist every month come here for a project to help highlight the City of Cleveland. As the Galleria has emerged in the city, we have developed a large art presence. We have over 200 artists with 5 different galleries. I would consider The Galleria as Cleveland's largest indoor art walk".

Artist, Denise Telep
Views "Come and Create" as important for the city and the community, as it serves a much greater purpose than a piece of art.

"This project is a metaphor for the city and a community to come together to collaborate on a project. This art project is a metaphor for a healthy community. As you can see here, people are really working together to do this. They are asking each other on their left and right if they are doing it right, while they wait for the specific color that they need. Everyone around is saying "I need color here and there" which is the best part of the project. People are really working together which is amazing. I truly believe that what keeps a city healthy keeps the suburbs healthy as well. Downtown, the Galleria and even this project are to everyone’s benefit to help keep Cleveland safe, fun, and healthy so that effect will trickle down onto the suburbs".

Others that participated in "Come and Create" were excited about the "Community Murals".

Jacqui Ladikos, Small Projects Coordinator for "Come and Create"
"I thought that something really interesting happened when everyone took the paintbrush. Everyone helped and contributed to something great. I think that people are truly excited about having this painting and receiving their certificate as a participant in “Come and Create” The people are so deliberate about every stroke. This is a chance for people to come together and collaborate as a community with their busy schedules to help create something that will remain in downtown for a long time. JoAnn DePolo is am amazing artist and we are so lucky to have her here today. For her to take time out of her day to give to the community is amazing."

Patti DiBenedetto, Artist

"This is so exciting! This is really great for downtown Cleveland and gives people a chance to realize how many great artists there are in Cleveland. This brings together a “melting pot” of people, just like the city of Cleveland."

Wayne Nichols, Resident

"This is such an encouragement. This really encourages you to attempt something. Everyone needs encouragement and young people need something like this which represents people coming together and believing in Cleveland."
