Artist Statement 2007
Desiring to work in sync with inspiration
my medium of choice is acrylic paint. With its flexible and
rapid drying qualities, acrylic paint compliments my painting
style. Most of the pieces within this selection of works are
created on canvas support with the exception of the piece titled
Urban which is painted on wood.
Electing to paint a variety of subjects reflects my free
spirited personality. The purpose for my art is to revitalize
creative thinking with a refreshing outlook that welcomes and
invites the audience to join the creative process. Art is a
story or journey or a venture. It is and has motion generated by
inspired thought and is not empty or without reason. The
abstract pieces; Rush, Vintage Earth, Water's Edge and New
World, are an excellent illustration of thought-provoking art. I
enjoy combining a variety of styles, colors and techniques with
non objective form allowing viewers the freedom to embark on
their own personal journey. Equally, I enjoy freely expressing
the obvious in a fresh, unique way through which all may benefit
from and enjoy as seen in Escape, Figures, Water Color and
Urban. This series of works was painted using a loaded brush at
times holding three to five colors of unmixed paint. I prefer
this technique as it offers excitement, creates feeling and adds
new elements to the understandable. My latest work was birthed
from a desire to create a piece unlike my customary approach.
Mediterranean Morning was completed May 25, 2007 and painted in
a style that demonstrates another side of my versatile nature.
Most people recognize my motivation and my purpose to be a
unique reflection of an artist as my focus is centered on
meeting the needs of others through my creative talents. For
that reason, I wrote Making It As An Artist and am dedicated to
helping others tap into and connect with their unique creative
abilities. My artistic talents were revealed much later in my
life. In my formative years, I recall merely going through the
motions in hopes of obtaining a sense of belonging that never
materialized. I felt alone, although I had friends and
interacted well with others. In an attempt to belong, I
suppressed my individuality, which eventually led to sacrificing
my creativity. In the end, it was this mounting frustration that
motivated me to actively seek to become the person I was created
to be. Over time, I realized my unique design was framed to fit
the mold of an artist. I often wonder how many others are
wasting energy struggling to fit in when the entire time they
were meant to lead the way. My motivation stems from the sense
of fulfillment I receive in encouraging others to become the
person and artist they were created to be within any profession.
Being successful in achieving my purpose, many have commented in
amazement that I am the opposite of every artist they have ever
met.
Although I am content with my present artistic
accomplishments, my plans are to continue increasing and
advancing, avant-guard, breaking new ground uncovering hidden
talent along the way.
